The new IPA-specific glass from Spiegelau. Earlier this week, the New York Post newspaper ran an article reinforcing what TabletopJournal has been saying for a while now.....that glassware can indeed elevate the beverage experience, just as dinnerware - all tabletop for that matter - can elevate the dining experience if it is chosen in a thoughtful way. And, elevating either the dining or the beverage experience doesn't have to break the bank. Having the proper glassware is one of the least expensive ways to upgrade the beverage (beer, wine, or spirits) experience while at the same time reinforcing the restaurant or bar's brand message. In the article, the Post said: "Tasting craft beer at its source — especially after a tour of its preparation — is like trying it for the first time. And many brewers all over the US are ramping up this experience by pairing your favorite beer with a glass that perfectly showcases its best assets: look, aroma, taste. The right glass is a combination of ideal height, diameter and shape to showcase the good stuff. Today, the first IPA-specific glasses, created by German glassmaker Spiegelau in collaboration with Sierra Nevada and Dogfish Head, are being unveiled at both breweries. (India Pale Ale, first brewed in England in the 1700s to send to troops in India, is leading our craft beer craze.) "These new choices for stemware and serveware certainly extend our high-quality premium offerings. We can now provide our foodservice customers with the broadest tabletop choices available in the U.S." Richard Voit, managing director, Spiegelau and Nachtmann, said, "Three great brands are joining together to fully serve the U.S. foodservice industry. We were attracted to Libbey because they possess many of the same attributes as Spiegelau and Nachtmann including a strong heritage and a reputation for high-quality products. That, combined with a high-performing sales team and effective distribution network, makes this agreement a mutually beneficial arrangement."

Spiegelau makes over 20 million glasses every year, In 2004, Spiegelau was purchased by Georg Riedel, the owner of Riedel Glass Works, and is now part of the Riedel Glass Works, and is now part of the Riedel/Nachtmann/Spiegelau Group.
Spiegelau´s unrelenting commitment to excellence combined with its ability to innovate and still remain accessible has allowed the company to endure and prosper where so many other glass manufacturers have melted away like so much molten glass. Spiegelau combines over five centuries of hand craftsmanship and innovation with the most advanced modern glass making technologies to produce superb glasses that are ideally suited for today´s wine lovers. In addition, Spiegelau also preserves the age old craft of hand blown glass. By working closely with sommeliers, chefs and consumers, the company has truly personalized the wine experience, creating a sturdy-yet-fine wine glass for every taste and need. American hospitality segment customers can get their Spiegelau from the Oneida Foodservice team. |
