The 200-year old Dudson announced that it will now proceed with its expansion plans with support from the Business Growth Fund (BGF), an investment vehicle backed by five of Britain’s largest banks. According to reports, BGF investment director Ian Downing will join the company’s board with the business remaining under the control of eighth generation family members Ian, Max and Mark Dudson who act as Non-Executive Chairman, CEO and Group Operations Director respectively. Chief Executive Max Dudson told local newspaper The Sentinel, “Primarily we will be looking to strengthen our manufacturing processes. Evolution has been extremely successful for us and we are seeing more customers using that line. We are looking at a medium to long term strategy which will mean investing in continued product development too, through the design process and by breaking into new markets and that will lead to us needing extra sales resources. What we are hoping to do, through this process, is to create jobs and, going forward, ensure the maintenance of the company in a successful and secure position. Our customers will be able to enjoy increased availability of product and more development in the range.” CEO Dudson continued, “BGF’s modus operandi of providing unsecured capital and allowing the incumbent board of directors to retain full control of the business, coupled with their long term perspective, makes this a perfect partnership for Dudson, allowing us to deliver our strategy for growth.” To read the entire Sentinel story, go here: http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/Tunstall-based-Dudson-ceramics-lands-3m-Business/story-21048427-detail/story.html#ixzz30lSNVtuT To learn more about Dudson and their wide range of hospitality tabletop products, go here: http://www.dudson.com/

If a person is lucky, somewhere in their professional career there is that “special”, perhaps even “magical”, time when you are in the exactly right spot at exactly the right time. For the people of Steelite International, this is that time. The employees of this company find themselves the envy of an industry and the leader in terms of new products and creativity for today's hospitality tabletop. This past weekend, TabletopJournal was fortunate to be a guest at the Steelite International 2014 Annual Sales Conference "Tomorrow's Trends, Today". With an opportunity to see this hospitality leader up close, we were curious to see how Steelite might be planning to continue the industry - leading growth pattern they have been on for the past several years. In a nutshell, it was a totally fascinating weekend and we extend a very sincere thank-you to Steelite for inviting and allowing us to be a guest. The Steelite esprit de corps among the organization is great to see in a time when much of what you read or hear within the hospitality tabletop industry is less than optimistic. And, it's clear that the passion for success evoked by Steelite International CEO Kevin Oakes and echoed by John Miles, Steelite Americas, President and Neil Hooper, Managing Director for Europe and Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific is running through the veins of every frontline Steelite salesperson, employee, and brand ambassador.
Here, are just a few of the many new Steelite products showcased at this event. The company's Royal Crown Derby Entertains division continues to get its feet on the ground and gain traction as a premier upper-end Fine Bone China product designed for the hospitality trade. Royal Crown Derby Entertains is the latest development in the 250+ success story of this company acquired by Steelite in late 2012. This new division represents a vision to create tableware as a luxury statement for use in fine restaurants, hotels, and clubs.
Steelite has been partnering with creative, like-minded partners such as glassware producers Rona and Bormioli Rocco for some time now, placing their products in hospitality customers at all levels. Both companies showcased new products to help fuel the Steelite growth engine of the future. Rona's new Single Malt Whisky glass is the perfect vessel for operators to take advantage of the continued appreciation for high-end whiskys of all types. TabletopJournal has been saying that all whiskys of a special character should be served in a special way....and, now Steelite brings you Rona's glass that especially designed to bring out the all the nuances of the top-level whiskys you are serving your guests. With a rounded belly of appropriate size and a tapered top and sheer rim, this specialty beverage glass will truly allow your whisky to develop to its peak, concentrate its bouquet to a rich and complex finish....providing guests with the perfect, enhanced and elevated beverage experience.
These are just a few of the multitude of new ideas and products that Steelite showcased over the weekend in their pursuit of being a dominant source for creative hospitality tabletop products. Products that not only do their job or function....but products that truly change the dining experience. It would have been difficult for this publication to accurately present all the new products and categories presented during this weekend. We're sure that operators will see the plethora of new ranges, new categories, new materials, and new ideas at Chicago's NRA Show in May and later in the year at the IHMRS Show in New York. The new product parade at Steelite shows no signs of slowing down....in fact, it's just the opposite. Oh...and, did we mention that a new Steelite website, along with a new array of supporting collateral materials and catalogs are all on the way? Expect these before the mid-year. And, as we have written before, with such an extensive array of tabletop products, it requires a skilled and professional organization. And there lies what we consider to be perhaps Steelite's most impressive asset - it's people. From manufacturing and warehousing...to sales and marketing..to finance, logistics, and customer service, the highly-engaged and customer focused infrastructure to support the strong demands of an increasingly global hospitality industry seem firmly in place at Steelite International. Today, when hospitality customers choose their tabletop products, they quickly realize they are also choosing more than simply a product. Choosing Steelite as your tabletop company seems like a great decision. Yes...it's a special time at Steelite, with perhaps the best yet to come. Stay tuned.
With its new Purity collection, BAUSCHER, a brand of BHS tabletop AG, is presenting a new class of porcelain at this year’s Internorga in Hamburg. Thanks to the revolutionary new material Noble China and the timeless, clear shape, Purity sets impressive new standards for table settings in first class addresses around the world. “With Purity, we have reinvented porcelain anew,” says Marketing Director Manuela Küfner. “Ever since its founding in 1881, BAUSCHER has been driven by the ambition to continually improve what is already good. That is also the case with the newly developed hard porcelain Noble China, a genuine in-novation. A remarkably delicate body, the subtle exclusive “Bonewhite” color, and an extraordinary impact-resistant edge and surface hardness – all in perfect harmony with the classic, low-key aesthetic of the Purity design. This makes the highly elegant, fine collection ideally tailored for use in top restaurants and hotels.” Noble China: the discovery of a new material With Purity, the graceful delicateness of the material Noble China together with its characteristic, soft Bonewhite color makes the subtle difference. Thanks to the use of the highest quality materials, the outstanding characteris-tics of the innovative hard porcelain are impressive: Fired at 1,400 °C, Noble China meets the highest demands for durability. Thus, at the same time delicate and robust, the Purity collection is ideal for the daily demands of the hotel and restaurant business and combines graceful appearance with a chip-resistant edge that sets new standards – as one might expect, 100 percent BAUSCHER quality “Made in Germany”. Modern classic with expressive accents In Purity, designer Andreas Weber relies fully on confident understatement in the formal design: Clean basic shapes such as circles and ovals meet flowing gentle lines. While plates and platters fit comfortably into any dining atmosphere, due to their balanced proportions, expressive design elements set a counterpoint – for example, the aesthetically curved sauceboats or the delicate, circular knobs on the lids for bowls. With its austere sensual pleasure and filigree body, Purity provides the ideal stage for presenting the widest variety of modern international food concepts. The understated elegance of the collection unfurls in the undecorated porcelain items just as impressively as in the finely drawn decorations in the proven BAUSCHER in-glaze technique, underscoring the design details of Purity, for example through fine wicker-like patterns or natural leafy tendrils. Along with the extraordinary design, the focus of Purity is on the compatibility and versatility of the individual porcelain pieces: Thanks to the sophisticated compatibility of many items, round plates, oval platters and bowls in a variety of versions always combine together in a multitude of ways, constantly creating new delights and ensembles. “Contemporary sensuousness”: Designer Andreas Weber describes Purity this way: “The shape of Purity is inspired by the interior design of first-class international hotels and restaurants – from extravagant to classic modern. The focus is on the question, ‘How can a porcelain service visually reflect such interiors in a strong and yet subtle way?’ “ “The result: an exciting combination of clear, basic geometric shapes with elegantly curved lines. This pure, stylish design unites modern and classic aspects in a contemporary sensuousness. Generous dimensions and finely balanced proportions exude premium quality and a certain understatement. The principle of versatility also played an important role in the development of Purity right from the beginning: The goal was to be able to use the individual porcelain pieces in a variety of different dining concepts.”
