Robbe & Berking is a German metals company and a producer of top quality flatware and accessories for discriminating hotel and restaurants. Many companies with the legacy and the heritage of Robbe & Berking might simply sit on their laurels and take advantage of their prestige branding – but not Robbe & Berking. In fact, they have lots going on and are continuing to push the design envelope even after nearly 150 years. The company’s latest adventure involves a new flatware design that evokes imagery of the famed America’s Cup yacht races. The America’s Cup is not only the oldest but also one of the most spectacular sports trophies in the world. From 1959 to 1987, the race was sailed by ’12 Metres’ – some of most elegant yachts ever made which, despite their name, were actually around 20 metres long. The Robbe & Berking shipyard, the sister company of the silver manufacturer with the same name, is a modern-day Mecca for these yachting icons. The shipyard has been commissioned to build three of these small giants in recent years, and its boat sheds are home to eleven of these yachts in the winter; more than anywhere else in the world. The first representatives of this class were launched in 1907, and over a century later, the elegant lines of the 12-metre class yachts continue to inspire and delight all those who set eyes on them. The time has come to finally pay tribute to these icons in a silverware series, the name of which is a clear nod to the inspiration for its graceful lines: 12! Designed by Daniel Eltner, this Robbe & Berking silverware collection mimics the bow of the yacht in its transition from handle to mouthpiece, while the end of the handle captures the shape of the stern and the knife blade is reminiscent of a sail at full mast. A silverware collection with a look and feel on a par with that of an elegant yacht. “Anyone who holds this silverware should be able to almost feel the sun’s warmth and the summer breeze,” says the manufacturer. Even before its official première, the design for the 12 silverware collection received an accolade from the Rat für Formgebung (German Design Council) when the jury chose it from among more than 500 other design concepts and named it one of the winners of the Iconic Award 2019. The German Design Council was established on the initiative of the German Bundestag in 1953 and aims to honour highly relevant modern developments and outstanding design achievements with its internationally acclaimed Iconic Award. Sun and summer breezes go hand in hand with cocktails on the beach. When served in the shimmering silver, hand-hammered pieces from the Martelé Bar collection, every drink becomes a work of art – be it in the kitchen at home, at an excellent meal or with an aperitif. With just this in mind, Robbe & Berking has now expanded its bar collection with the addition of a versatile snack bar line. The products from the Flensburg, Germany-based silverware manufacturer can be highly political, too. On the back of the EU’s decision to ban single-use plastics, Robbe & Berking has now introduced silver-plated drinking straws: an environmentally friendly, reusable alternative and a clear statement in favor of sustainability. Unlike plastic, the silver-plated straws instantly adapt to the temperature of the drink so that the mouth can feel the pleasantly fresh sensation. A new taste experience – keeping plastic out of our oceans and everyday life. For more information on Robbe & Berking, go here: https://robbeberking.com/en-US/home.html
