Today's Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper chronicles the pain that the German hospitality/HoReCa sector will be feeling from increased COVID restrictions being implemented by both the state and federal governments there. And, of course, within our range of vision is the recent decision to cancel the Ambiente trade fair, which was to be held in Frankfurt in early February. This is the second year in a row that Ambiente has not been held in person and the impact of losing the world's biggest consumer goods trade show is devastating to Frankfurt restaurants and hotels.
And, it has to be remembered that the costs are not only economic, although these are the most visible. The social and human costs of being locked down and isolated from family and friends once again are nearly impossible to determine.
