All, right on the show floor. All, right in the middle of the Tabletop section.
Yes....#TabletopMatters. To learn more about Cafe Bellas' new BELLA BAR, go here: http://www.cafebellas.com/home With Days 1 and 2 in the books at the International Restaurant & Foodservice Show of New York saw the aisles filled with attendees despite the predictions of another impending snow storm which....in the end, did not materialize. Show goers had no weather related problems either getting to or leaving the show on Sunday. This show held every March here in New York is generally considered to be more of a "local" show with restaurateurs and buyers from the tri-state area showing up in quantity to see new products of all types...and, to sample the many excellent food and beverage products on display. A number of tabletop companies exhibited, but most were showing existing products or were teamed up with their local representatives to insure they had a presence, but at the same timekeeping show costs under control.
Plus, now Eastern is becoming a major source for wood furniture pieces such as backbars, podiums, host stations, all the way on up to whole cafeterias and food courts. Another "new" launch at this show was the Pasabahce line of glassware being placed front and center and re-launched by its new North American hospitality partner Hospitality Glass Brands. Pasabahce is a major global glassware producer and with Hospitality Glass Brands as its partner, there can be no doubt that hospitality buyers in North America now have another world class choice for wineglasses and barware.
Perennial tabletop leaders such as Libbey, Arcoroc (Cardinal), Hollowick, and Service Ideas were among the other tabletop companies exhibiting and showcasing recent introductions. Other notable tabletop brands exhibiting were Oneida, Fortessa, and Lenox Commercial, along with Front of The House partnering with the team from M. Tucker. Always great seeing the top brands at the best shows!
Remember.....Tabletop Matters!
We'll have more on this expanded product line from Hospitality Glass Brands in the near future. But, for now, to learn more, go here: http://hospitalityglass.com/
Speaking of space saving ideas, Arcoroc's STACK UP collection of stackable barware seemed to be getting plenty of interest by operators looking for stylish, yet practical glassware. Brought to market by Cardinal Glass, these stack-friendly glasses come in both short tumbler and hi-ball sizes. The Rosenthal and Sambonet brands showed plenty of great products with both backstamps, with their Platinum SKIN Rosenthal dinnerware and the corresponding SKIN flatware from Sambonet getting plenty of love from the participating designers in the Tabletop Challenge competition.
The first annual TabletopJournal "TABLETOP CHALLENGE" took place on Day 1 of the IHMRS Show and what an event. Five teams of creative designers stepped up to create their very best tabletops using great products from various tabletop producers and a box of "mystery" props such as nails, scarves, a Chinese language newspaper, a miniature Statue of Liberty, and more. The products available to them were not revealed until right up the last moment and, as if that wasn't stressful enough...they all were under a 30 minute time limit! The design teams were given world-class hospitality tabletop products from event sponsors such as Steelite, Rosenthal, Sambonet, Eastern Tabletop, Hospitality Glass Brands, and Norex/Safelite. In addition, Arcoroc and Jono Pandolfi also contributed products. The overall winner will be determined with a "people's vote" throughout the remainder of the show. Initial balloting has been heavy and halfway though Day 2 and ballots had to be reprinted to supply enough to so that voting could continue! Voting continues until the end of the show and the winner to be announced Wednesday evening! So, stay tuned ...and if you're at the show now...now sure you get your vote in! Keep in mind that many of the exhibitors entire booths, samples, literature sent in for the show were destroyed by flooding and plans had to be, in some cases, totally re-done from the very beginning. So, our hats go off to not only the exhibitors, but to the trucking companies, the set-up people, the Javits Center staff, and finally to George Little Management who manages the show. Without what had to be extraordinary efforts from everyone, we doubt this show could have taken place. So, kudos to all for the determination and flexibility that allowed this show to go on as scheduled.
These are but a few of the exciting tabletop products showcased here at the show. We saw many others and will be commenting on those in the days to come. Now, off to Day 2.
